Chapter Title:
New Media Vs Digital Media
Book Title:
Synopsis
The main problem with the phrase "digital media" is that it tends to emphasize and pinpoint technology as the defining component of a medium, rather than its use and applications. Instead of focusing only on technological advancements, the phrase "New media" sheds emphasis on the cultural notions and circumstances of modern media activities. Many experts in the field of media studies believe that the emergence of "new media" is merely an example of traditional forms of media being reevaluated in light of more advanced technologies, or, as Dewdney Andrew and peter put it, "the visioning of new media possibilities through the lens of old media is a response to the phenomenon of convergence in technologies and media ownership."
The phrase "new media" is used to describe the ever-changing business that includes such things as multimedia, entertainment, and e-commerce. According to Parker and Dunn, "the phrase has long been used in social research," with researchers using it in the '60s and '70s to describe their efforts to understand the development, implementation, and impact of ICTs. Creating, sharing, and exchanging information and ideas in online groups and networks are all examples of what are known as "social media." And social media can't exist without the mobile and web-based technologies that provide highly interactive platforms for users to share, co-create, debate, and change user-generated content. It causes widespread and significant changes in how people and groups talk to one another. The term "social media" is used to describe various online platforms where users may connect with one another and share and discuss various forms of media. As a result, social media relies on mobile and web-based technology to develop highly participatory platforms through which people and communities share, cocreate, debate, and change user-generated content. It causes widespread and significant changes in how people and groups share information.
