Synopsis

Consider the technology you have access to today. Did you send a text or capture a picture on your smartphone? Check a social media platform to see how friends are doing or to change your own status? Do you check your voicemail or email? Use Wi-Fi on an iPad or laptop? Perhaps you're taking this course online or reading this content as an electronic book. These are all in CNN's list of the top 25 innovations from the past 25 years, despite the fact that it is difficult to envision daily life without them.
In a reader poll conducted by CNN, the Internet came out on top as the most significant invention of the past 25 years. As was previously noted, technology and the Internet are to blame for hastening the globalisation of the economy.
Thomas Friedman, a Pulitzer Prize–winning author of the New York Times, was thinking about the impact of technology and the Internet on our lives, employers, the way we work, and the economy as he examined the roots of globalisation in his best-selling book The World Is Flat. Friedman said that the Internet and cheap instantaneous communication provided by fibre optics have enabled nations, businesses, and individuals to compete on a nearly level playing field. The development of globalisation has been expedited by quick, economical transportation of people and things. Individuals can now compete on a worldwide scale no matter where they are from.
Friedman anticipates that international economies will be ruled by empowered individuals, producing a corporate climate that is more diversified and less dominated by organisations in Western countries. This has caused a change in the geographic supply and demand for labour. Globalization has shifted demand for manufacturing and services like customer service to low-cost providers in Mexico, India, and China, just how the industrial revolution affected national economies by moving jobs from craftsman to mass manufacturing. According to Friedman, the impact of these forces can't be stopped and will only increase. Organizations working in this global context are aware that there are a wide variety of ethnicities, languages, and cultures in this diverse planet. HR specialists must be ready to take on the task of showing respect and modifying training.
