Review of literature is a key step in the research process. It involves systematic identification, location, scrutiny and summary of the written material that contains information on the research problem.
Literature review is essential to locate similar or locate similar or related studies that have already been completed which help the investigator to develop deeper insight into the problem and gain information on earlier studies.
Review of literature is standard requisition of scientific research. It means reading and writing the pertinent information of the attempt in research topic. It also supports and explain why the proposed topic is taken for research and avoids unnecessary duplication, explore the feasibility and illuminate the way of new research.
According to Polit and Beck, (2012), “A review of related literature is an essential aspect of scientific research. It broadens the understanding of the research and helps to gain an insight necessary for the development of a broad conceptual context into which the problems fits”.
This chapter presents the review of selected research non research literature, relevant either directly or indirectly to the present study. The exercise helped the investigator to visualize the extent of problem, to justify the research for the proposed problem, in collecting information, to know the methodology, used in exploring the problem and conclusion drawn from the studies.
